We all dreamed about it. Pat Summitt walking into a practice or calling us at home. Wearing the orange and white while running out of the tunnel to thousands of screaming fans. Most of us knew it would never become a reality. Never, ever did I entertain the notion that I would play for Pat Summitt. The thought of it actually terrified me. As a young girl, from a small southern town, growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, basketball was life. The age before cell phones and social media. It was what we did year round. Pat Summitt was the epitome of girl's basketball. Playing for her or against her meant you made it. I've cried several times over for last few because her death signifies the end of an era and although I never spoke a single word to her, her mere presence on this earth represented what basketball meant to me. I don't know if my daughter will be as heavily involved with the sport as I was but Pat Summitt's legacy transcends sports and gives us the ultimate life applications.
1. It doesn't matter what you have been given-what matters is what you do with what you got.
2. There is no substitute for hard work.
3. You are never too good to do the not "fun" jobs. -Pat washed their laundry and drove the bus for crying out loud.
4. God and family are the foundation of it all.
Many articles and tributes have been offered in the last few days but this article, written partially by Pat, is my favorite.
